Please please can we get a resolution to this? (Wrong browser launching)

I moved to a new Windows 7 laptop today and discovered that Firefox launches instead of IE even though I have all settings in Notes correct as discussed here and elsewhere. When I renamed firefox.exe to see what would happen, Notes just "sat there" rather than checking for an alternative. I have 8.5.2FP2 on Windows 7 with IE 9.0.1 and Firefox 4.0.1.

I moved from a (working fine, thank you) laptop that was running XP, IE 8 and Firefox 3.6.13.

Oh, and just to make things interesting, if I choose to open a Quickr place on the web from my Notes client side bar, it launches IE!

I'd be happy to downgrade my browser if that's the solution for now. Or tweak a reg setting or ANYTHING (except run the basic interface as I don't consider that an acceptable workaround).

Thank you to anyone who can post a resolution to this and apologies if that's been done already and I just haven't found it.
